The decision was taken at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee at the Islamic Foundation conference room with Religious Affairs Secretary, also committee member, Md Babul Hasan in the chair.
According to the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARRSO), the moon of 1st Muharram of 1437 Hijri was sighted on the country’s sky on Wednesday.
The day is a public holiday.
Ashura is observed on the 10th Muharram to commemorate the Karbala tragedy in which Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA) along with his family members and followers embraced martyrdom.
